This institute was established in the Podar Medical campus, Worli, Mumbai in 1986 as Raja Ramdeo Anandilal Podar Central Research Institute (Ay) by merging nine units of CCRAS functioning at different places in Mumbai and Pune. This institute has been maintaining its status as ‘Central Research Institute for Ayurveda’ in the region and undergoing continuous process of upgradation.

Brief Introduction
Raja Ramdeo Anandilal Podar Central Ayurveda Research Institute, Mumbai (CCRAS) is one of the peripheral institutes under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
This institute was established in December 1986 in the Podar Medical Campus, Worli, Mumbai. Prior to the establishment of the institute nine units of CCRAS were functioning at different places in Mumbai and Pune. All these units merged to form Central Research Institute (Ay) and shifted to the Podar Medical campus of Worli, Mumbai except for the Pharmacology & Toxicology unit placed in B.Y.L. Nair Medical College, Mumbai due to paucity of space. At present, that unit is not functioning, as there is no fresh appointment after the superannuation of the working officers.

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) is an autonomous body of the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), Government of India. It is an apex body in India for the formulation, coordination, development and promotion of research on scientific lines in Ayurveda and Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine.
